Botox Injections: Treatment, Recovery, Side Effects

Although this treatment doesn’t change much from year to year, we feel it’s essential for our patients to refresh their knowledge. We want our clients to understand the ins and outs, so they are fully prepared.

Botox injections are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments, as they are affordable and give excellent results. The treatment involves injecting a small amount of botulinum toxin (aka Botox) into the skin, which temporarily paralyzes the muscles in specific areas reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It works great on wrinkles and lines on the face, such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles.

A Few Botox Procedure Details

The treatment itself typically takes only a few minutes and is performed by a trained healthcare professional, such as our Beauty Anywhere experts! Before the injections, a small amount of ice will be placed on the areas to be treated, making the injections pretty painless.

Once numbed, a fine needle is used to inject the Botox into the targeted muscle. The needle is very thin and short, so most people barely feel the injections.

The amount of Botox units used will vary depending on the size and location of the muscle being treated and the desired outcome. While some require 50 or more units, most people only need 20 to 30 units to achieve the desired results. Our aestheticians will review their recommendations before starting the procedure.

Recovery Time & Side Effects

You will be pleased to know that there is usually NO recovery time needed after the treatment, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. Some people may experience mild side effects such as redness, swelling, or soreness at the injection site. These are very temporary and will resolve in a few days.

Many of our clients experience no side effects at all; however, we want you to be aware of potential side effects that should be considered. These include:

●      Bruising: Bruising may appear at the injection site but is usually mild and gone within a few days. The bruises are so minimal they can easily be covered up with makeup.

●      Headaches: Some people may experience headaches afterward, but this is not common and is unlikely to last long.

●      Allergic reactions: This is rare, but some people have reactions that cause hives, rash, or difficulty breathing.

●      Numbness or tingling: Some people may experience numbness or tingling in the area where the Botox was injected, but this is very uncommon.

●      Drooping eyelid or brow: In rare cases, the Botox toxin may spread beyond the injection site and cause drooping of the eyelid or brow. This is also uncommon and is temporary. It resolves itself within a few weeks.

Overall, Botox injections can be a safe and effective way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face.

Additional Recommendations

We do not recommend Botox injections for:

●      Pregnant or breastfeeding women

●      People with certain neuromuscular disorders

●      People who have had allergic reactions in the past

We also suggest that clients avoid alcohol and blood thinning medications for some time before and after the procedure to minimize the risk of bruising. Additionally, we recommend avoiding exposing the treated area to heat, so avoid hot showers, saunas, etc.

Do not rub or massage the treated area for a minimum of four hours after the procedure.
